With its title "I never promised you a rose garden", the 7th Performance Garden takes Joanne Greenberg's same-named novel, written in 1964, as its starting point: the story is about an autobiographical crisis, about illness and isolation, about loss of reality and healing. Inspired by this, the 7th Performance Garden will draw performative portraits of our present: How do bodies behave in a newly emerging and wild present that hardly seems to promise anything rosy? Which gardens and gestures do we face?
Performance Garden is a public event in Cologne with artistic works from the field of Performance Art. The 7th Performance Garten will take place on 23 and 24 October 2020 in the Alte Feuerwache Cologne (Melchiorstraße 3, 50670 Cologne).
The format is open to young and experienced artists alike. We welcome performative works from a wide range of artistic disciplines and media – such as video/dance/music or lecture performances – that relate to the topic in their own way. The Performance Garden offers a stage for artistic works as well as an open space for discourse between artists, audience and other actors.
The artists will receive an expense allowance, the amount of which depends on the approved funding and is not yet fixed at this point in time.
